Patients waiting for treatment at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford had a surprise when they were offered free coffee and doughnuts.

They were passed around the outpatients’ department at the Headington hospital to mark the 30th anniversary of the national League of Friends in 1979.

The Friends’ group at the Nuffield, which had been going for 15 years, also took the opportunity to advertise its fundraising campaign to help pay for an extension to the outpatients’ department.

The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre has been treating patients with bone and joint problems for more than 80 years and has a world-wide reputation for excellence in orthopaedics, rheumatology and rehabilitation.
