The controversial HS2 project is hiring for roles in Oxfordshire, most paying by the day. 

The high-speed railway project that aims to connect the north and south of England has been ramping up its work in the county recently, closing a road in Banbury for the next month

The jobs listed get across the scale of the project, which is the largest infrastructure project of its kind in the UK, and some of the jobs have only been posted in the last few days.

At a quick search, there are around 50 roles available in Banbury, with these five standing out.

Site Agents - Banbury

Pay: £300-400 per day

This job involves day to day management of the site, and co-ordination of sub contractors and the materials needed to complete the job. Despite the job description saying the role is based in Banbury, workers are expected to go between London and Birmingham.

The requirements listed include a a degree, bachelors, MSc or HND in Civil Engineering with 'experience working for a main contracter'. Applicants also need knowledge of highway standards and procedures and a CSCS qualification.

Crane Supervisor - Banbury

Pay: £16.80- £25.20 per hour 

This job is what it says on the tin, successful applicants needing a driving license and their own car to get to the sites as well as CPCS (Blue) and SSSTS. The role would involve working over a 225km section of the new rail line, with four or more years of work ahead. There are perks such as 29 days holiday, and travel (over nine miles) to the site is covered.

Laboratory Administrator - Banbury

Pay: [not specified]

An administrator is wanted to join the HS2 Laboratory team at the Greatworth Green Tunnel Compound, which is in Banbury. 

It's a permanent role, the main requirement being a sound knowledge of Office with experience and qualifications in the construction industry desirable but not essential. A driving licence is also recommended to get to the site, but also not essential.

Foreman - Banbury

Pay: £250-£300 per day

This role would involve managing gangs of workers, interpretations of technical drawings and other site administration tasks. Despite the job description saying the role is based in Banbury, workers are expected to go between London and Birmingham.

Experience in the highway industry is preferred, with previous experience as a Foreman necessary and a CSCS Gold or Black card and SSSTS/SMSTS. 

Highways Section Engineers - Banbury

Pay: £300-£350 per day

This role involves helping the sub-agent with roads and drainage sections of works, amending method statements and risk assessments, as well as overseeing site engineers and making inspections. 

Qualifications such as a construction-related degree or qualification are needed for this role, with experience in similar projects.
