A FAMILY escaped a car fire on the motorway without injury after some quick thinking.

Firefighters from Bicester Fire Station and Kidlington Fire Station were called to extinguish the car, which caught fire on the M40 southbound, between junction 10 at Ardley and 9 at Weston-on-the-Green, near Bicester.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service closed the hard shoulder and lane one so firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reels, could safely deal with the blaze

Crew manager Haddy, who was the incident commander, said: “The occupants of the vehicle did the right thing when they saw smoke, which was to pull over immediately, get their family out and away from the car and called 999.

“These swift actions meant thankfully nobody was injured.”
