A Greggs customer was left shocked after staff cooked a number of sausage rolls that had just been dropped on the floor.

Carly Wallbank had stopped in at the Brunel Shopping Centre eatery in central Swindon on Wednesday morning (April 13), but as she was waiting for her food, she witnessed a member of staff drop several uncooked sausage rolls onto the floor.

She then saw colleagues pick up the rolls and put them back onto the tray to cook them with the other rolls.

It left her asking questions - but Greggs say this is "part of their very strict health policy" and said that these were disposed of after cooking.

Carly told the Adver: "I asked the ladies surely that's not allowed to happen.

"You've just dropped them on the floor and now you're putting them in the oven."

Carly said the employees said they put the rolls that had gone onto the floor upside down to keep track of which ones were on the floor before they were cooked.

This is to make sure which sausage rolls they then need to get rid of and make sure not to serve customers.

"They didn't put any sausage rolls upside down because I literally watched every move they were doing," Carly said.

She later expressed how she didn't understand why they still cooked them on the same tray as the rest of the sausage rolls.

A spokesperson for Greggs said that even though the sausage rolls were cooked, they were not served to customers.

He said: "It's part of a very strict health policy they have that all food must be cooked before it gets disposed.

"I can assure you that the sausage rolls were not served to customers and were disposed of soon after they were cooked."
