A man had £12,000-worth of cannabis – all for his personal use.

Daniel Harkins’ weed stash was found when police made a number of raids in connection with a wider investigation in late 2019, Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard.

Prosecutor Nony Umenyiora told the justices that the 26-year-old’s home was searched on November 13 and at the property they found 989g of the class B drug. It had a market wholesale value of £7,200, but could have been worth £12,000 if it was broken down and sold on the streets in smaller amounts.

Also found at the property were two smaller ‘deal bags’ of cocaine.

Appearing before the magistrates’ court, Harkins, of Beaker Place, Milton, pleaded guilty to personal possession of class A and B drugs.

Angela Porter, mitigating, asked the justices to adjourn the case so the probation service could prepare a pre-sentence report.

She said that a few years ago her client had been involved in a serious crash. He was ‘taking cannabis for his personal use to help himself with his personal situation’.

The magistrates put the case back until May 11, bailed Harkins and ordered the probation service to look at ‘all options’ in their pre-sentence report.

A co-defendant, Darryl Wyld, 31, of Drury Lane, Mortimer Common, entered no pleas to possession with intent to supply cannabis and cocaine and possession of £28,685 in dirty cash in Didcot. He was bailed to attend Oxford Crown Court on May 16 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
