A bankrupt letting agent was due before a crown court judge accused of bringing in £25,000 in rent payments while she owed the taxman more than quarter of a million pounds.

Madelaina Eftekhari, 56, was said to have run a residential property lettings business from 2012 to 2018 ‘with intent to defraud her creditors’.

She is accused of obtaining almost £25,000 in rent payments and acted as a director of Hernes Close Residents’ Association between April 2014 and March 2016 while an undischarged bankrupt.

The Insolvency Service, which has brought 11 charges against her, say she failed to disclose that she owed £270,000 in tax or that she was able to use another’s HSBC bank account.

She is alleged to have failed to declare she owned properties in St Bernards Road and Croft Road, Oxford, that brought in a £2,500 a month.

Eftekhari is accused of fraudulently saying in 2013 that her properties were managed by a Dubai based company KME Property Management.

She was due before Oxford Crown Court on Thursday for a plea and case management hearing. Her barrister attended virtually, via video link, in her absence.

Recorder Michael Roques approved a 10 week adjournment after her lawyers asked for time to obtain mental health reports.

Eftekhari, of Hobson Road, Oxford, was bailed to return to court on June 20.
