A dispersal order will allow police officers to move on anyone in Bicester town centre who they think is responsible for anti-social behaviour.

The order, made under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, is in force until 8pm tomorrow (Sunday).

On social media, Thames Valley Police said of the order: “It can be used by officers and designated PCSOs to deal with anyone over 10 engaging in anti-social behaviour or crime and disorder.”

No reason was given for the order being put in place.

The area covered by the order includes much of the town centre, including Pioneer Square shopping centre.

By law, a senior police officer of the rank of inspector or above can approve a dispersal order for up to 48 hours.

They must be satisfied that the order is needed to stop crime or prevent people in a particular area from being ‘harassed or distressed’.

The orders give constables the power to require someone they think is responsible for crime and disorder to leave the area covered by the order. They can also require the person to hand over any item, for example a megaphone or flare, that is being used to cause anti-social behaviour.
