An Indian restaurant has been slammed with a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Memories of Bengal, an Indian restaurant and takeaway at 12 Wallingford Road in Cholsey was given the low score after an assessment on February 2, according to the Food Standards Agency’s website.

The restaurant owners were given the mark by an inspector at South Oxfordshire District Council. The one-star rating means the council feels that major improvement is necessary.

Memories of Bengal was marked as ‘improvement necessary’ for its food hygiene and safety, ‘generally satisfactory’ for its cleanliness and ‘major improvement necessary’ for the actual performance of management.

This new score means that of South Oxfordshire's 266 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 137 (52 per cent) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
