AN APPLICATION to build three student accommodation blocks for 51 students has been submitted.

The full plans for Green Templeton College in Woodstock Road include the demolition of a current accommodation building, squash courts, gardeners’ shed and existing porter’s lodge.

In their place, three accommodation buildings to house 51 students, plus communal spaces, will be built.

Other key elements of the proposal include: a dining and catering facility to seat more than 128 diners, study facility which ‘matches the demands and requirements of current students’, repurposing a Grade I tower and returning it to being a library, and an application to make a gym facility a permanent feature.

A cover letter alongside the application states Green Templeton College was founded in 2008 through the merger of the Green and Templeton colleges.

The letter adds: “Following the merger of the two colleges, Green Templeton has accommodation for just 227 of our more than 600 students.

“The purpose-built graduate accommodation building providing 51 rooms will be located on the site of the two tennis courts at the north eastern edge of the site within the surviving walls of the 18th century walled garden.

“To discourage reliance on private car use, there will be no provision for car spaces for the inhabitants of the accommodation, and 51 cycle racks are incorporated as part of the integral design for the building.”

The application can be viewed on Oxford City Council’s planning portal, using the reference number 22/00410/LBC.
