A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council said: “Like all councils and communities throughout England, Oxfordshire County Council stands ready to help people in Ukraine, providing assistance to any refugees displaced by the conflict.

“We will be guided by central government as to the best ways that we can help as the situation continues to develop. In standing with the people of Ukraine we and partner organisations will support and give a warm welcome to refugees locally should our help be needed. Information about how you can make a donation can be found on the County Council webpage https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/council/support-ukraine.”

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has resulted in international outcry, with UK based businesses, public bodies and organisations severing their Russian ties.

The invasion was condemned by 141 nations at the UN General Assembly this week. While 39 countries, co-ordinated by the UK, made the largest-ever referral for war crimes to the International Criminal Court.

On Friday, Oxford City Council announced a U-turn and said it would temporarily end its twinning agreement with Russian city Perm.

The decision comes as public pressure called for the council to end its link with the Russian city.
