Former Oxford United ace Joey Beauchamp was found hanged at his Kidlington home, the coroner's court heard.
Opening an inquest into the 50-year-old’s death this afternoon, senior coroner for Oxfordshire Darren Salter described the case as a ‘sad’ one.
Oxford Coroner’s Court heard that Mr Beauchamp was found dead at his home in Kingsway Drive, Kidlington, on February 19. His death was verified by a police constable at 1.57pm that day.
His body was later identified to the police by his brother, Mr Salter noted.
Following a post-mortem the cause of the former winger’s death had been given as hanging.
A full inquest will take place on May 17.
The opening of the inquest was attended by a number of reporters, who had dialled into the hearing via a telephone link.
