A suspected drink driver left a trail of destruction on a Witney street.

The van driver was said to have written off his own van and two other vehicles on Windrush Valley Road at around 9.30pm on Friday night.

Darran Brown, 53, was at work when he was called by his wife saying a van had hit a number of cars on the road.

“I came straight home and saw the carnage down the street,” he told the Oxford Mail.

“I couldn’t believe it.

“By the time I’d got back the bloke had done a runner.

“I was fuming. They wrote our car off, they wrote their van off and they wrote off another car.”

At least five vehicles on the road were damaged, Mr Brown said. However, it could have been worse. As he was at work and his daughter was away, the family’s two other cars were out of harm’s way.

CCTV showed the moment the van struck Mr Brown’s wife’s car. The driver could be seen getting out and inspecting the damage. He was said to have stayed by the van for 10 minutes before leaving the scene.

The matter has been reported to Thames Valley Police. The Oxford Mail understands no arrests have been made.
