Timothée Chalamet’s new film has once again wrapped up production in Oxford.

The Paul King-directed film has taken over parts of the city several times during the last few months as filming continues on the Hollywood movie.

Excited fans have eagerly crowded around the film sets to catch a glimpse of Chalamet.

What is it about?

The Warner Brothers produced film will focus on a young Willy Wonka before he opened his world famous chocolate factory.

Wonka will specifically follow the titular character’s first meeting with the Oompa Loompas.

The film is a direct prequel to Roald Dahl 1964 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Who will it star?

Timothée Chalamet will star in the lead role as a young Willy Wonka.

Reportedly, Tom Holland and Chalamet were the two finalists for the role but Spiderman actor Holland ultimately lost out to Chalamet.

It has been widely reported that Hugh Grant has recently joined the cast of Wonka to play an Oompa Loompa.

The film will also star a host of famous faces, including Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Coleman and Jim Carter.

The film will be directed by Paul King and has been written by King and Simon Farnaby.

When did it film in Oxford?

Wonka has been spotted filming in Oxford several times during the last few months, where a number of streets and areas of the university have been closed off for production.

Just before Christmas fans gathered outside Hertford College to try and spot the A-list actor. When he emerged from the college he waved to screaming fans before walking in the direction of the set surrounding Radcliffe Camera.

Other fans captured pictures and video footage of the star in the city while production was underway.

Production returned to Oxford this month when fake snow was placed around Radcliffe Camera.

Filming took place between February 14 and 20, with the Bodleian Libraries issued a notice that there would be some minor disruption including the blocking of some entrances and exits.

Scenes for the film have also been shot in Lyme Regis, Bath and at Warner Bros Studios in Watford.  

Will it film in Oxford again?

It is unknown yet if Wonka will return to Oxford to film further scenes.

When will it come out?

The film is set to be released on March 17 2023.
