An Oxford councillor has highlighted that the Wonka film set seems to be 'missing something'.

Labour and Co-operative party councillor for Cowley, Charlie Hicks, tweeted a side-by-side photo of the Wonka film set on Catte Street today with an archive shot of Oxford from the 1930s.

He captioned this: “To the producers and director of Wonka filming today in Oxford, this is what the transport looked like in 1930s Oxford. You seem to be missing something.”

Hicks is referring to the choice to use cars rather than bicycles, as the 1930s shot shows an Oxford street filled with cyclists.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Cllr Hicks said: "It is really exciting whenever films come to Oxford. It is brilliant to see our beautiful city being used."

But the keen cyclist who had stopped by Catte Street this morning himself, and had a peek at the set, said it 'got him thinking' about the 'historical accuracy'.

"If you wanted to really accurately represent what the 1930s looked like in Oxford then you need more bicycles," he said.

"It's a shame to see that Wonka didn't. At Oxfordshire County Council we want to make the city the best in the country for cycling."
