Film crews for the Wonka movie starring Timothée Chalamet are back in Oxford.

The production was due to take over Merton Street in December, but this schedule was then pushed back until today and tomorrow.

Film trucks for Warner Brothers parked up in Catte Street near the Radcliffe Camera yesterday ready for filming to begin.

Oxford Mail:

One member of the film crew told the Oxford Mail they have returned to get a series of 'wide shots' and couldn't say if the star would be returning.

There could also be filming in Merton Street involving fake snow.

Shopfronts, businesses, and residential properties on Merton Street will still be accessible, but film crews may need to ask people to stop for filming.

A letter sent to residents and businesses says: "Due to the cancellation of filming that was to have taken place in 2021, we are writing again to inform you of our new proposed dates for filming in Merton Street on Wednesday, February 16 between the hours of 7am and 5pm.

Oxford Mail:

"The action involves a tracking vehicle driving up and down the road to film the street, dressed to the period 1940s-50s and with fake snow.

"Therefore, for public safety and in order for us to dress the streets with fake snow in advance, we intend to put a road closure in place on Merton Street from 6am Tuesday, February 15 to 8pm, Wednesday, February 16."

There are also likely to be vehicle restrictions in Catte Street, Broad Street and New College Lane.

M Chalamet, who stars in the satire Don't Look Up currently being streamed on Netflix, was spotted in the city in December.

Oxford Mail:

He is said to be playing the Roald Dahl character as the film explores what Willy Wonka got up to before opening his famous chocolate factory.

No release date has yet been confirmed for the film.
