Oxford has been named the most house-proud city in the UK according to a study, with people spending £9,329 on average to transform their homes.

For a second year, researchers polled homeowners from 30 cities to determine the most house-proud city in the UK.

Each of them was awarded points based on money spent on home improvements, time spent doing DIY, and the number of unfinished jobs.

With 227 points, Oxford got the top spot as the most house-proud cities. London, last year’s winner, came in second place and Aberystwyth, in Wales, got third place.

As part of its findings, the study discovered that the city’s residents spend the most money on improvements and furnishings.

They also utilise the services of more tradespeople than anywhere else. With 52 percent of locals following the latest trends and developments in home décor and improvements.

Checkatrade - a site which operates as a directory of vetted and recommended tradespeople -commissioned the research for its second annual Home Pride Index report, which found that 35 percent of the 2,399 adults polled, love their homes more than they did last year.

Edinburgh, Gloucester and Portsmouth came at the bottom of the list, with the Scottish capital scoring in the bottom set for the second year running.
