A SUSPICIOUS item, believed to be a bag or a package, sparked a bomb scare at the John Radcliffe Hospital this afternoon.
A witness told the Oxford Mail the suspicious item was found on Level 6 at the hospital, and that the hospital entered a brief lockdown.
A spokesperson at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees the John Radcliffe, said: “We were made aware of a suspicious item at the John Radcliffe Hospital today and as a precaution, an area was temporarily closed for a short amount of time.
“It was quickly established that the object was harmless, and there was no danger to staff or patients. No services were impacted.”
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson added: “Thames Valley Police received reports of a suspicious item at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, at around 12.13pm today.
“Prior to officers arriving, the owner of the item was located.”
