An officer at Oxford University’s Student Union has described how “glad” she was the Duchess of Cornwall was able to meet a “diversity” of students.

Devika, who is Vice-President for Graduates at the student union, met with the Duchess at Weston Library, part of the Bodleian Library, this morning as Her Royal Highness undertook a tour of the building.

The Duchess was also met organisers of Oxford Literary Festival and was joined on the tour by author Sir Philip Pullman.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall loves reading and regularly promotes the benefits of literacy, particularly through her ‘Reading Room’ book club on Instagram.

Devika, who has just finished studying for an MPhil Modern South Asian Studies said meeting the Duchess was “quite lovely and pleasant”.

She explained: “I am just glad she got to meet such a diversity of students and the research that they are doing, so it was quite pleasant from that perspective.

“She was very genuinely interested in their research, so that is nice too.”

She added: “[The Duchess], as a part of the Royal family, is a massive stakeholder so it is good to have conversations that are really important at the moment with people like that.”

On her favourite memory from the day, Devika was happy “I was able to get five students to see her, along with me”.
