Cycle lanes are set to replace most bus lanes on a major route in and out of the city centre.

The major overhaul of Woodstock Road is being planned for later this year.

It is hoped the £12.5m proposal will encourage more people to cycle, walk or use public transport and reduce the number of vehicles along there.

Local resident Ed Pen spoke to BBC Radio Oxford and said as a cyclist and a driver he is all for the changes. He said: “I think the current road is unsuitable for cycling and there are certain sections of it that are actually dangerous.”

However, there is opposition to remove the bus lane.

Phil Southall managing director of Oxford Bus Company told BBC Radio Oxford that by replacing the bus lane with a cycle lane it will leave buses waiting in traffic.

Mr Southall said: “We cannot accept the bus waiting in traffic because it will take far too long.”
