Almost 300 litres of diesel was spilt outside Westgate after a large goods vehicle ruptured its fuel tank.
At around 9.30 am on Tuesday fire crews from Rewley Road Fire Station and Didcot Fire Station rushed to Speedwell Street outside Westgate to clear the spill.
Firefighters said the quick work by the initial crews, and the use of Environment Agency equipment carried on the specialist Decontamination and Environmental Protection Unit from Didcot, meant that significant environmental pollution was averted.

Almost 300 litres of diesel was contained and collected and didn’t enter nearby watercourses.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue released images of how they cleared the spillage.
The vehicle was recovered later in the day and the road reopened shortly afterwards.
