A prisoner caught behind bars with a home-made shiv was said to have refused to attend court.

Shaun Page, 21, had been due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Monday morning for having makeshift knives at HMP Bullingdon in January and February last year.

Recorder David Mayall was told that staff in the court cells had been informed by the prison service that Page had refused to attend the hearing.

His barrister, Christopher Pembridge, asked the judge to adjourn the hearing as there was a suggestion that his client may be charged with other offences.

The court heard that Page was a serving prisoner. He was given five years in 2018 for causing grievous bodily harm and later received another 16 months for actual bodily harm.

Page, of HMP Bullingdon, will return to court on March 21 for sentence.
