PLANS to revamp a pub to include a first floor terrace are set to be validated by Oxford City Council this week.

The Bullingdon in Cowley Road is proposing the terrace, in addition to extending office use.

A design and access statement for the application reads: “A first floor terrace is proposed, which will be used to enhance the existing function of The Bullingdon.

“It is also proposed to extend the offices use at the top floors, where new floor area is to be created.

“The existing stairs would be extended up to service the new office spaces.”

A planning statement adds that the application is ‘seeking to expand and refurbish the live venue and bar/club by proposing the addition of two floors and an outside terrace space’.

The planning statement adds: “The increased height will provide space for offices, toilets, an additional indoor bar area and an outdoor terrace for the bar on the first floor.

“The first floor level currently consists of offices and a kitchen. This would be converted into a bar area, with internal seating and toilets, plus the external seating area to the rear.”

In a consultee comment, Thames Valley Police’s crime prevention design advisor Kevin Cox, said: “The proposed further development in this location is wholly inappropriate, and I have fundamental concerns that were this development to go ahead, there would be a significant detrimental impact on local residents, the surrounding area and subsequently police resourcing, in terms of noise nuisance, anti-social behaviour, crime, disorder and the fear of crime.”

The application can be seen on the city council planning portal using the reference number 21/00452/FUL.
