Seven people have been handed fines by an Oxford court for travelling on a train without paying for their ticket and intending to avoid its payment.

The fines were handed down by Oxford Magistrates’ Court on November 19, 2021.

Lewis William Aitken, 26, from Adderbury, Banbury was charged a total of £409.60.

The court heard that in June 1, Aitken travelled on Chiltern Railway between Kings Sutton and London Marylebone without paying a fare of £43.60.

He was fined £153, and must pay £43.60 in compensation, a surcharge to victim services of £34 and costs of £179.

Between January 21, 2018 and June 20, 2021, Imram Taylor, from Merganser Drive, Bicester, travelled on a Chiltern Railway train 76 times to various locations without paying for his ticket.

The total fare of his travels was £2,231.60.

The 26-year-old was fined £261, made to pay compensation of £495.60, surcharge to fund victim services of £34and costs of £179. Having to pay a total of £969.60.

Hassan Zubair, 21, from Alma Road, Banbury, failed to pay for his fare on July 12, for his journey between Bicester North and Banbury.

He also gave a false name when an officer of a railway company requested it.

Zubair was charged a total of £253 which included a fine of £40, a surcharge for victim services of £34, and costs of £179.

Cherry Lynn Joines, 64, from Rochester Way, Twyford, did not pay £5.70 for her journey on June 26 between Bicester North and Banbury.

She was fined £220, must pay compensation of £5.70, as well as surcharge for victim services of £34 and costs of £179.

Joines has to pay a total of £438.70.

Adam Jeffries, 19, from Abingdon was charged £1847.60 for his infraction.

The court heard that he travelled 97 times on Chiltern Railways between November 1, 2018 and June 21, 2021.

The fare for his journeys gives a total of £942.60.

Jeffries was charged £1847.60 which included a fine of £660. He must also pay compensation of £942, pay surcharge for victim services of £66 and costs of £179.

Jamie Hughes, 23, from Kings Sutton, Banbury did not pay the £3 fare for his train journey on May 26 between Kings Sutton and Banbury.

He was charged a total £666, this included a fine of £440. Hugues must also pay compensation of £3, surcharge for victim services of £44 and costs of £179.

Alexander Benjamin Jones, from Templar Road, Oxford, travelled on Chiltern Railways between Oxford Parkway and London Marylebone on May 31.

The court heard that he failed to pay for the £47.40 fare.

The 22-year-old was fined £220, must pay compensation of £47.40, a surcharge to fund victim services of £34, and costs of £179.

Jones will have to pay a total of £480.40.
