Boris Johnson today faces calls to resign from Oxford MPs after his “pathetic” apology for attending a BYOB party at Downing Street during the first lockdown.

Speaking at PMQs the Prime Minister offered a ‘heartfelt apology’. He insisted it had been a ‘work event’ and Downing Street said he had never been sent an email encouraging staff to bring a bottle and “make the most of the lovely weather.”

He said: "I want to apologise. I know that millions of people across this country have made extraordinary sacrifices over the last 18 months. I know the anguish they have been through - unable to mourn their relatives, unable to live their lives as they want or to do the things they love."
However, this apology was not enough for many politicians and Oxfordshire. MP's Layla Moran and Anneliese Dodds have been clear in their calls for Boris Johnson to resign calling his apology "pathetic".

Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon tweeted:"PM admits he went to the Party. He apologises. But still thinks it was within the rules. Pathetic. Unbelievable. Meanwhile I’ve had emails saying people are sick to their stomachs. That they didn’t see loved ones. Their mental health suffered. Resign Boris. Now."

Anneliese Dodds Labour MP for Oxford East also tweeted calling for Boris' resignation. She said: "The joke's not funny any more. Boris Johnson must resign."

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer also called on the Prime Minister to resign.
He added: “The party’s over, Prime Minister.

“The only question is will the British public kick him out, will his party kick him out, or will he do the decent thing and resign?”
