A man pawed a mum in front of her young daughter.

Appearing before Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, Andrei Sandu, 21, pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual assault by touching.

He molested the woman in Wheatley on December 6, 2020.

His barrister, Peter du Feu, said that he would normally ask for a pre-sentence report but acknowledged that ‘being realistic about the situation it may be that that would of little assistance to the court’.

Judge Maria Lamb disagreed. Adjourning the case for the preparation of a probation report, she said: “It’s a concerning situation, a 21-year-old man who has few previous convictions committing a very strange offence.

“Whilst I understand what you say about the possible options here I do think that it would be prudent to have the probation service involved.”

Sandu, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody to be sentenced on February 3.

Judge Lamb said: “Mr Sandu shouldn’t think that the sentence would be anything other than a prison sentence. But, of course, the court on the next occasion will listen to everything there is to be said.

“You will be brought back to court on February 3. The judge on that day will hear all about the case and will listen to what your lawyer will have to say on your behalf. There will be a report from probation and you should cooperate as you should be helpful to probation in the preparation of that report.”
