POSITIVE cases of coronavirus in Oxfordshire have risen by 1,515 in the latest figures.

Five deaths were recorded in the county, in the latest statistics, released by the Government.

Four deaths were within 28 days of a positive test, while one had Covid-19 on the death certificate.

The new cases were recorded as follows:

• Oxford (334)

• Cherwell (346)

• South Oxfordshire (294)

• Vale of White Horse (326)

• West Oxfordshire (215)

These latest figures mean there has now been a total of 128,326 recorded cases of Covid-19 in the county.

Across the UK, 194,747 new people had a positive test result reported today.

Between December 30 and today, 1,281,588 people had a confirmed positive test result.

This shows an increase of 40.1 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

There were 334 deaths in the UK within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported in the latest figures.

Between December 30 and today, there was 1,195 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

This shows an increase of 131.6 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

The latest vaccination figures reveal that almost 52 million people have been given a first dose, while more than 47 and a half million people have been given a second dose. More than 34 and a half million people have been given a booster or third dose.
