A drink driver got behind the wheel as he wanted to get back to his dog at home.

Self employed kitchen fitter Anthony Harvey, 52, had drunk four pints at his local after finishing work on Friday, December 10.

He told Oxford Magistrates’ Court that he ‘just didn’t think’ about the consequences of driving after the pub visit. He said he had a ‘small dog I wanted to get home to’.

Prosecutor Ann Sawyer-Brandish said Harvey’s Honda struck a parked car in the High Street, Bloxham. A passer by helped Harvey, who left his details with the owner of the other car, move the vehicle out of the road.

She said: “It appears Mr Harvey had left and walked his dog briefly. However, he returned to the scene of the road traffic collision at the request of the [police] officers.”

When he was breathalysed at the police station he provided a reading of 50mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

The officers discovered he only had a provisional driving licence and was therefore not allowed to drive the car without a qualified driver in the car with him.

Harvey, of High Street, Bloxham, pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without a licence. He had no previous convictions and made full admissions to what he’d done when he was interviewed by the police.

Representing himself, Harvey told the justices: “I’m here now, I’m shaking. I won’t be doing this again, believe me.”

He was fined £346, banned from the roads for a year and ordered to pay £120 in costs and surcharge.
