WHILE many nursed sore heads, a young group of Muslims got up in the early hours to clean the streets following New Year celebrations.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) Oxford started in Cowley Road, before moving to Bartlemas Road and then High Street.
The street clean follows other initiatives this winter, including visiting children’s hospitals to give out chocolates and gifts, as well as donating food to Oxford Food Hub.

AMYA Oxford coordinator Kaleem Ahmed said: “Our members have enjoyed living in Oxford for decades and so any opportunity to help our local community is a much welcomed one.
“Cleaning the streets of Oxford also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims as cleanliness is an integral part of our faith.
“Giving up a couple of hours can make a huge difference. We are a peace-loving and well-organised association which will continue to help make this great part of England an even better place to live in.”
