A total of 10 babies were born in Oxfordshire on Christmas Day – with the first arriving at around 2am on Christmas morning.
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said six of the newborns were boys and four were girls.
The first child arrived at around 2am, midwives said.
Pandemic visiting rules meant the Oxford Mail wasn’t able to go into the delivery suite at the John Radcliffe Hospital to speak to the parents of the Christmas Day newborns.
However, last week delivery suite midwifery manager Sacha Ream spoke to us about the excitement on the Oxford unit to see who will deliver the first Christmas baby.
She said: “It’s a really nice atmosphere. We get really well looked after with Christmas dinner and our housekeepers – both called Kim – get us presents.”
The festive fever can be infectious – but only when the time is right.
“It’s probably not at the time of labour – I don’t think anybody’s that excited,” Ms Ream said.
“But afterwards I think there’s that thing that it’s really special to have a baby on Christmas Day.”
She added: “After a couple of years they might think differently.”
