A dangerous driver showed ‘no regard’ for others on the road, police said.
Jesse Billingham, 23, was handed an 18 month suspended sentence at Oxford Crown Court earlier this month for what a judge branded his ‘escapade’ on the roads in April.
Recorder John Hardy QC said that those watching CCTV of Billingham’s driving, which was later released by the Crown Prosecution Service, would think he ‘richly deserved’ to go to prison.
However, he spared him that fate after hearing the Benson man had been working with addiction charity Turning Point.
Now, the officer who took the case to court has given their reaction to the sentence.
PC Shahed Ali, based at Abingdon police station, said: “Billingham showed absolutely no regard for the safety of other road users during his journey.
”Dangerous driving frustrates communities and law abiding motorists. We will always deal with offenders robustly.”
Billingham has been banned from driving for two years and must pass an extended retest before he gets behind the wheel.
