Police have welcomed the jail time handed to a repeat drug dealer from Barton.
Dekwon Reid, 25, was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Oxford Crown Court this month – after he was caught dealing heroin and crack cocaine while awaiting trial for doing exactly the same thing.
Welcoming the sentence, PC Rachael Snelling said: “This is an excellent result from the South and Vale tasking team and Thames Valley Police’s Stronghold campaign, which continues to target and disrupt drug dealers across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
“We remain committed to making the streets of the Thames Valley a hostile place for drug dealers and we will never tire at bringing offenders to justice.
“County Drug Lines cause untold harm in our communities and dealers often target the most vulnerable people in our society.
“I am pleased that Reid has now been sentenced to prison and will not be able to carry out his criminal activities.”
Earlier this month, a court heard that Reid, of Cranley Road, Barton, had initially been addicted to the drugs he was caught selling in Didcot in 2020.
By the time he was stopped with heroin and crack cocaine in Oxford more than a year later, he was off drugs but selling to repay old debts as his family had come under pressure from those higher up the chain.
Recorder John Hardy QC, the judge who sent him down, told Reid: “This court is not without sympathy towards people who find themselves in the situation you have found yourself in.”
