Shoppers making some last-minute Christmas purchases at Bicester Village may see armed officers patrolling the retail centre.
Supt Emma Garside, the commander for Cherwell local policing area, told a meeting of the independent advisory group earlier this month that there was ‘no specific intelligence’ to suggest the armed officers were needed.
“Campaigns are being run in the lead up to Christmas where there is a high footfall,” the minutes read.
Ms Garside said the officers would be ‘able to respond if needed’.
“Business owners and shoppers have been reassured,” she added.
In a wide-ranging update to the advisory group, the area commander said there had been ‘some reports’ of people being spiked with needles in pubs and bars in Banbury and Bicester. No cases were linked to sexual offending, she added. “More reports of drink spiking have been received.”
