More than 1,000 people queued up for walk-in booster this weekend, as an Oxford doctor has praised the vaccination team.

Oxford GP Joe McManners praised the work of the “amazing” team who delivered more than 1,000 Covid-19 vaccinations on Sunday.

GP Joe McManners, who works at The Manor Surgery near the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington, took to Twitter to give out Sunday’s figures.

He said that on Sunday 1,290 vaccinations were given out, 660 of which were walk-ins.

Dr McManners said there “such a good atmosphere” and also praised the “amazing team including amazing volunteers”.

Over the weekend the surgery offered walk-ins for people who needed a Covid-19 vaccine or booster jab.

On Friday Dr McManners, posted on Twitter and announced that although The Manor Surgery had 750 appointments that day for booster jabs it was able to offer walk-in appointments to the public.

He later tweeted that 1,066 people were jabbed, including nearly 300 walk-ins.

This comes after the Kassam Stadium suspended all walk-in booster appointments. Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said the only people who will receive walk-in doses are the severely immunosuppressed who have a letter advising of the need for a third primary dose or a booster.

The booster vaccine is now available to everyone over the age of 18 and people are being urged to get it to help tackle the Omicron variant of the virus.

You can pre-book your booster dose online if it's been 2 months (61 days) since you had your 2nd dose of a Covid-19 jab.
