A GRIEVING daughter is walking more than 100 miles from Oxford to London in memory of her dad.

Daisy Hughes is setting herself the challenge of walking 114 miles from Oxford to London along the Thames path with the aim of fundraising £1,500.

Mark Hughes was a journalist who studied at Trinity in Oxford. In his career he covered the genocide in Rwanda, and recently ran the Business Desk for the Khmer Times in Cambodia – where he died on October 29, 2021.

Daisy said: "Dad was a dedicated and brave journalist, clever and funny, and had treasured friends from all over the world. He loved walking and nature, and had some of his happiest times in Oxford where he went to university. When his career took him abroad, 13 years ago, my sister and I missed him greatly."

The money raised will be donated to the John Schofield trust, which is a charity that seeks to improve social mobility and increase diversity in UK journalism.

Mr Hughes worked with John Schofield at Channel 4 Daily and Daisy says the trust is a cause she feels would be close to her fathers heart.

David Stenhouse the CEO of the John Schofield Trust said: “Mark Hughes believed in mentoring and supporting young journalists, and Daisy’s walk celebrates his life and his values. We are very grateful to Daisy for donating the money she raises to the Trust so we can continue doing our work to encourage and support young journalists from diverse backgrounds.”
