WORK has started on the controversial Botley 'skyscraper'.

Oxford Mail Camera Club member Ian Marriott captured these snaps on Botley Road earlier this week.

Developers had originally wanted to build an eight-storey tower with 120 flats inside, which would have sat next to the new Premier Inn building which has sprung up west of the A40 as it passes Botley.

But after more plans were approved by the Vale of White Horse District Council in October last year, the Botley Development Company will make a taller tower - which will be nine storeys tall and contain 150 flats.

The tower, is part of the overall scheme to renovate the West Way Square area.
