A man spat at a gaoler while serving at HMP Bullingdon, a court heard.

Connor Hodgkins, 30, had been due to stand trial next year on the allegation he assaulted the prison officer on March 11.

But at a hearing before Judge Ian Pringle QC on Friday morning, Hodgkins pleaded guilty to the charge.

Gordana Austin, mitigating, said her client may have been suffering from psychosis at the time. After the assault he was admitted to Littlemore Hospital, a psychiatric unit in Oxford.

The judge ordered psychiatric and probation reports, remanding Hodgkins into custody to be sentenced on January 28.
