A sleep disorder and ‘drug sedation’ was cited as the cause of a paramedic’s death in a crash in Didcot.

Christopher Dark, 34, from Didcot, was driving north on the A4130 North Perimeter Road, near the Trident business park, on July 8 when his car crossed onto the wrong-side of the road and crashed into an HGV.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, but pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Senior coroner for Oxfordshire Darren Salter said: “It is likely that the combination of a sleep disorder and drug sedation resulted in fatigue which was the cause of the accident.”

The primary cause of his death was given as severe head trauma, with secondary causes listed as ingestion of multiple sedating drugs and sleep disorder.

Closing an inquest into Mr Dark’s death, the coroner recorded a conclusion of road traffic collision.
