A TikTok user has shared images of Oxford’s old Westgate Centre in a viral video.

TikToker kodak_blue414 shared the video which contains images of the centre before it underwent a makeover and extension between 2016 and 2017 to become Westgate Oxford.

The video shows the centre’s interior and exterior 1980s design, including its blue entrance way. As well as this, it also shows pictures of the shoppers in the centre and its old escalators.

More than 11,000 people have watched the video, with locals leaving nearly 400 likes and 71 comments.

Oxford’s Westgate Centre was originally built between 1970 and 1972 before being sold to private owners in the 1980s and undergoing a £3 million revamp.

The centre underwent one more refurbishment which has given us the modern shopping complex we have today.

The video sparked memories from other locals on the app.

TikTok user Meg said: “You can’t remove the smell of that escalator staircase from my mind. It is burnt in.”

Domanic Hunter commented: “The Old Primark was so much better!”

Victoria Leah, however, added: “It’s only been a few years and yet I somehow forgot what it used to look like.”

Similarly, TikTok user Zulfi said they do not “remember the old Westgate looking like that.”
