AFFORDABLE houses, more student accommodation and heating the public pool are just a few of the things on this weeks planning agenda.

On Tuesday, Oxford City Council will be holding its monthly planning committee meeting where it will look to decide whether to give two applications planning permission.

•Where? Former Workshop at Lanham Way, Oxford, Oxfordshire

•In brief: Oxford City Council has proposed to build 14 new affordable houses at this site.

The area used to be home to an old depot site, however, is no longer in use.

The council has said each dwelling will be affordable and will be built on brownfield land.

The council agreed to buy the parcel of land from Oxfordshire County Council back in October 2020, along with another site on Sandy Lane for a whopping £31 million.

•Where? 17, 17A, 17B and 19 Between Towns Road, Oxford, OX4 3LX

•In brief: On Tuesday, Oxford City Council's planning committee will meet to determine the outcome of a planning application that wants to convert an social space into student accommodation.

The plans ask to demolish the old Cowley Conservative Club, and 17/17b Between Towns Road. Once the buildings have been demolished, Cantay Estates LTD (who submitted the application) will build three, four and five storey buildings.

These will hold 189 student study rooms, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, as well as bin and bicycle storage and ground floor space for local community use.

The proposals are part of a major development - the committee has been recommended to approve the application, and set out the conditions of the application.

•Where? Hinksey Outdoor Swimming Pools, Abingdon road, Oxford, OX14RP

•In brief: An application has been submitted to install a ground source heat pump.

It would create a closed loop water source heat within Hinksey Lake - this would provide a source of heating for Hinksey outdoor pool, with the aim of downscaling boilers on the site and reducing carbon emissions.

The pool is owned by the council.

The planning committee has been recommended to approve the application to install the heaters.

•Where? Magdalen College School, Cowley Place, Oxford, OX4 1DZ

•In brief: The application asks to demolish a three-story link building between the existing sports hall and an academic block.

It will then create a new three-storey building comprising a kitchen servery, teaching classroom and a learning support department.

•Where? St Clement's Street, Oxford, OX41AR

•In brief: The applications ask for alterations to the shop front of R & H Newsagents.

If approved, the shopfront will have new signage, installation of a security shutter, re-painting and re-plastering.

Internal alterations to include, repairing ceilings, floor surfaces, exposed trunking, plumbing and light fittings.
