Four drivers slapped with fines by an Oxford court last month for driving more than 70mph on Oxfordshire’s roads.

The motorists were handed fines by Oxford Magistrates’ Court in November for exceeding the speed limit on the A34 and A40.

One driver was caught going more than 90mph. 

Under UK law, the speed limit is the absolute maximum on the roads and cars, motorcycles, car-derived vans and dual-purpose vehicles can drive up to 70mph on dual carriageways and motorways.

These are the drivers who were fined last month:

  • Peter Halsall, 37, of Walnut Street in Southport was found to have exceeded the speed limit on the A34 near Kidlington on May 23. The speed recorded was 88mph. Halsall was handed three penalty points, fined £220, made to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £90.
  • Michael Kelly, 37, of Spencer Avenue in Yarnton was found by the court to have sped on the A40 near Forest Hill on April 20. The speed recorded was 89mph. Kelly’s was given three penalty points, fined £40, made to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £90.
  • Albert Mambo, 45, of Hatherall Close in Swindon was found to have driven above the speed limit on the A40 near Forest Hill on April 20. The speed recorded was 85mph. Mambo was handed three penalty points, fined £220, made to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £90.
  • Carol Burne, 58, of Blakes Field in Didcot was found by the court to have exceeded the speed limit on the A34 on May 23. The speed recorded was 93pmh. Burne was given four penalty points, fined £172, made to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £90.
