The new Willy Wonka film starring Timothée Chalamet will film scenes in Oxford, students at Oxford University have been told.

The scenes will be shot at Hertford College and students were informed through the college’s newsletter, independent student newspaper Cherwell has reported.

The newsletter said that the college cat, Simpkin IV, will soon be “competing for quad space with the cast and crew of the new Wonka film.”

The film’s story will focus on a young Willy Wonka before he opened his famous chocolate factory, chronicling one of his earliest adventures and how me the Oompa-Loompas.

Wonka is directed by Paul King, who also directed the Paddington films, and was written by Horrible Histories star Simon Farnaby.

Cherwell also reports that the film’s venue administrators, Narrow Mark Films, have applied to close Catte Street in Oxford on December 12, 13 and 21.

New College Lane, Brasenose Lane, and Merton Street are also going to be used as locations to film in.
