A prisoner has had his sentence extended following an assault on staff at HMP Bullingdon.

On having his cell door opened, Aaron Gardner, 36, punched one staff member and caught another with a swinging arm while the other officers tried to control him.

Gardner then struck another of the staff members on the neck with an implement twice before being handcuffed and restrained.

Gardner, of HMP Bullingdon, near Bicester, pleaded guilty to one count of ABH and one count of assaulting an emergency worker.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Friday for the incident that took place on February 11 this year.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Joseph Stevenson, said: “Offences against prison staff will never be tolerated and will be treated very seriously.

"This conviction and sentence reflects this, and Gardner will now have to serve more time in prison as a result of his actions.”
