On Saturday evening Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that new Covid-19 restrictions are to be put in place.

The new restrictions come as two cases of the Omicron variant, first detected in South Africa, have been identified in the UK.

In an attempt to slow the spread of the variant, Mr Johnson announced "temporary and precautionary" measures which will be reviewed in three weeks.

These new measures include mandatory mask wearing on public transport and in shops, international arrivals taking a day 2 PCR test and contacts of suspected Omicron cases self-isolating for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid told Sky’s Trevor Phillips on Sunday that mandatory mask-wearing will return to shops and public transport on Tuesday.

Passengers arriving to the UK have also been told that from Tuesday morning they will have to take a PCR test and self-isolate until they test negative.

MPs are expected to be given a vote to approve the measures on masks and isolation after they come into force.

On Facebook we asked our readers: Do you agree with the new Covid-19 rules?

This is what you said:

ABI AZTEK EDWARDS: “Nothing is going back to normal ever.”

NATALIE DEAN JONES: “So we can’t go in shop without mask yet we can nip in the pub next door without wearing one, crazy. Also we are safe to fly back to the country until Tuesday then the Covid kicks off again Wednesday. Lock down here we come.”

LEON STILES: “I haven’t stopped wearing a mask in crowded places.”

MARION WHITE: “Won't affect me as I have been wearing my mask when out and about for the last two years especially in the town and shops. I will carry on wearing it as I haven't had a cold or virus since I started wearing it!”

KATIE LOUISE: “Doesn’t really matter if you don’t, will be another lockdown soon. Nothing is going back to normal anytime soon.”

LAURA SIMPSON: “Yes, but I say that as someone who has still been wearing their mask and distancing where possible anyway. This is just the way things are now. BC no longer will mean before Christ, it’ll mean before Covid.”

LARA LEWIS: “Wear the masks, social distance, and no lockdown. Carry on ignoring, and then complain there’s lockdown.”

B.T. MURTAGH: “The exception for "hospitality venues" is stupid. If you're going to do it do it, half arsing it is the worst of both worlds.”

ANDREW HARVEY: “Doesn’t matter if we agree if we want to stay healthy it’s best to follow them.”

CARLA LE MAITRE: “I've never stopped wearing mine. Every time I go outside I've been laughed at, accused of not having my jabs and I'm the selfish one. I have had both my jabs and choose to still wear a mask, doesn't mean just because I'm wearing one I've not had my jabs. What is wrong with people?”

STUART PARKER: “Waste of time. Covid is here to stay we just need to carry on as normal and learn to live with it.”

KIM MOLE: “I don't think the rules should have ever been relaxed. Covid never went away but people started acting like it had. This is the consequence of that.”

ALICIA LEWIS: “Never stopped wearing a mask in town and shops no different for me.”

ALISON MALONEY: “Yes, they should never have been relaxed in the first place.”

AARON MARSH: “I don't have the information offered by SAGE to allow me to make judgement.”

CHANIECE JEANNE: “I do believe masks work, last year I hardly got poorly. This year me and my family have been poorly 3 times, not Covid but it helps with general colds going around 100%.”
