A MAN was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison after stealing alcohol from Tesco.

Kenny Mcewan, 41, of Harlech Close, Banbury appeared in Oxford Magistrate's Court on July 5 and admitted to the theft of various items of alcohol, to the value of £83.50 on January 6, 2020.

Mcewan was sentenced to prison for six weeks.

The offence was deemed to be serious due to previous record and breach of a suspended sentence. However, the defendants guilty plea was taken into account by the courts when imposing a sentence.

On July 5, the defendant also pleaded guilty to stealing £77.50 worth of alcohol from Tesco on January 8, 2020 and £85 of alcohol form Tesco on January 2, 2020. He also pleaded guilty to stealing £64 worth of alcohol form Tesco on December 29, 2020 and £55 worth of alcohol from Tesco on January 2, 2020.

Mcewan was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128.

The overall length of the prison sentence was 24 weeks.
