A group of businessmen and businesswomen helped to kickstart this year’s annual festive appeal run by Sleigh2Give.

Last week, November 10, the group of 60 people made their donations to this year's campaign collection, run by Play2Give, as well as over £75, which will help the organisation to purchase more presents.

The event took place during the monthly business breakfast meetings, run by The Oxford Business Community Network; this month's South Oxfordshire sixth birthday breakfast was held at the Harvester in Milton Gate.

Inspirational speaker, James Butler said: "I know personally the value of charity toys when your parents can't afford ones for you and can only imagine the agony for parents who are unable to treat their loved ones, so well done for all that you're doing Andrew."

Sleigh2Give gained momentum across the county when, in 2015, it started as a one-off appeal with Sainsbury's in Didcot to deliver some toys to children's wards in Oxford.

Ben Thompson, Managing Director of Thompson and Terry Recruitment said: "The work that Andy and Play2Give do is amazing and being able to support him and their cause has been such a privilege.”

The fundraising group organises year-round events to raise funds for a range of local causes, it was founded by Didcot's Andrew Baker, 33, in 2007.

Mr Baker, who is a brain injury survivor, has dedicated half of his life to fundraising since the age of 14, his background and a campaign launched by the Oxford Mail to get the Children's Hospital built are the reason why he wishes to repay the hospital teams who cared for him.

Over the past seven years, the Play2Give team has been able to give around £180k worth in value of thousands of Christmas presents to local children and families less fortunate, the vulnerable and those facing financial hardship.

There are many donation zones across the county in Didcot, Oxford, Abingdon, Wallingford and Banbury.
