Customers have complained after waiting almost an hour for their prescriptions in a queue for a pharmacy.

Residents in Wantage are fed up with the long waiting times for Lloyds Pharmacy on Mably Way and have taken to the Wantage and Grove community Facebook page to complain.

Greta Thornbory from Wantage was shocked at the time she was forced to wait for her prescriptions.

She said: "I just queued for 50 minutes at Lloyds Pharmacy. At one point the queue was nearly out the door and into the car park.

"How long is this going to happen? No other pharmacy will do dosette boxes, which my husband needs."

She added: "Some people were giving up as they had to collect children from school. Lloyds Pharmacy sort yourselves out."

Other residents have also had to wait at the pharmacy.

Pip Titheradge wrote on the community Facebook page: "We had to collect a prescription from there last week, and arrived 15 minutes before they shut, with a few stragglers behind us. The two people on duty worked calmly through everyone, way beyond their opening hours- we left at about 7.15pm. I imagine that happens most evenings."

Katie Henderson said: "I was there in that queue with my little one. It was madness."

Stephen Coombes said: "My prescription went into Lloyds a week ago Monday, I waited until Friday to pick it up giving them plenty of time to fulfil it. I waited 40 minutes after saying I was collecting. There were nine people in front of me waiting, I got called before eight of them to be told it was out of stock.

"At Lloyds only one person waiting during that time got their medication. I have no idea what they were doing as the pharmacist was in sight and not doing any consultations or jabs."

Plans for a new pharmacy in Wantage could help these delays.

The proposed plans for an extension on the Mably Way Health Centre will provide the practices with nine extra consulting and treatment rooms each. There will be a larger joint waiting and reception area in the centre of the building, new patient facilities, new pharmacy, and optician units at the front of the building, and more parking.

In September, Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group approved the funding for the anticipated extension and partial refurbishment of the building.

The extension is expected to cost £5.5m and work could begin in early 2022.

Lloyds Pharmacy has been contacted for a comment.
