A lone female student was allegedly sexually assaulted as she sat near Cowley Road.

Frank Hollywell, 29, is said to have molested the woman, who was unknown to him, after speaking to her on Bartlemas Road on November 11. She was said to have been sat at the side of the road as she was feeling ill.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning dressed in a grey tracksuit, bearded Hollywell, of Templar Road, Cutteslowe, did not enter pleas to a single charge of sexual assault by penetration.

The charge is indictable only, meaning pleas can only be taken at the crown court. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

His solicitor, Richard Demczak, said the allegation was strongly denied.

Chairman of the bench David Kinchin told Hollywell he would be remanded in custody until a plea hearing at Oxford Crown Court on December 10.
