A man has been given a 20 weeks jail sentence after he was convicted of using a prohibited item at HMP Bullingdon.
Taye Christian, aged 21, now residing at HMP Peterborough, pleaded guilty to the offence in a hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday (29/10).
At around 2.15pm on 20 April last year, prison officers undertook a search of a double cell at HMP Bullingdon.
During this search, they found and seized a mobile phone, which was on charge.
Christian claimed responsibility for the phone and was charged via a postal requisition on 14 October.
Investigating officer PC Andrew Gold of the Prison Crime Team, based at Banbury police station, said: “Mobile phones can have a significantly detrimental impact on the safe day to day running of prisons, both for other inmates and for staff.
“The sentenced pass reflects the seriousness of the offence and the position of the courts on matters of this type.”
The 20-week sentence will run consecutively to a current sentence following a recall to prison.
