This is the shocking moment abusive Luke Shirley was bundled into the back of a police van – after attacking three paramedics and subjecting a police constable to vile racist abuse.

The 21-year-old was given 60 weeks’ imprisonment at Oxford Crown Court last month for what the judge branded ‘absolutely atrocious’ behaviour.

Now, a taste of what emergency service crews had to endured can be seen after the Crown Prosecution Service released a footage from a police officer’s body worn video camera.

The video shows Shirley, who had been handcuffed and has had restraints placed around his legs, being placed into the back of a police van.

The attacker, who had only been out of prison for a week, can be heard screaming abusive words at the 999 crews. The words have been bleeped out.

Shirley had been running around on Gipsy Lane, Oxford, when a female paramedic got out of her response car and tried to calm him down.

When other paramedics turned up to help her, he began lunging at them. He punched one of the ambulance workers in the face and kicked another in the groin.

The paramedics, who were left waiting for officers from an overstretched Thames Valley Police to arrive, were forced to use an oxygen mask as a makeshift spit hood to stop Shirley aiming phlegm at them.

Shirley, of Elms Drive, Old Marston, pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court to affray, assaulting emergency workers, racially aggravated harassment and racially aggravated common assault.
