HEAVY winds that swept across Oxfordshire over the weekend left homes, vehicles and trees damaged.
A fire crew from Bicester Fire Station was called to the property in Fringford near Bicester in the morning and using saws, axes and ladders they managed to remove most of the fallen tree from the house.
They were helped by Oxfordshire County Council contractors who used chainsaws to remove larger sections of tree that were blocking the road out of the village.
Two people living in the house managed to escape the room they were in and were assessed by medically trained firefighters as they were suffering from shock.
Caroline Makin, who lives in Fringford, said she was 'totally shocked' as something like this had not happened locally before.
She said: "I was totally shocked and felt sorry for the poor people who live there as this has never happened in our village before. And the house is the old school of the village.
"If there is anything we can do to help the people who live in the house as a community we would be honoured to do so."
Elsewhere in the county, a huge tree branch caused queues on Botley Road in Oxford after falling.
The branch fell from a tree outside the Beaumont Veterinary Group and Thames Valley Police stopped traffic travelling in both directions, due to the sheer size of the branch in the middle of the road.
Cladding panels at high-rise flats in Oxford also fell off during the severe winds.
Panels near the sixth and 11th floors of Evenlode Tower had been dislodged by the high winds and were in danger of falling off.
The area was cordoned off, with Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire County Council now in the process of arranging emergency repairs.
In the village of Tackley, near Bicester, a 'tornado' damaged cars and properties.
Resident Louie Bass said: "Loads of trees have fallen and cars smashed up. I’ve never seen anything like it round here. I was asleep in my caravan when it went right overhead, but my back garden is torn to pieces."
High-speed winds also caused a huge road sign in east Oxford to come crashing down on vehicles.
Cars parked opposite the Mini Plant in Cowley next to the Oxford ring road were left smashed after the massive sign toppled over landing on top of them.
